Will my retirement pension from my job reduce the amount of my Social Security benefit?

Answered By Editor

Usually your retirement pension has no affect on your Social Security benefit. But, if you are a Federal employee, who has the Civil Service Retirement System, then your Social Security will be reduced by about two-thirds. In addition, even if you are not eligible for Social Security (because you have not earned enough credits) but your spouse is, then when they die you will not be eligible for any Social Security - if you have CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System).
